Lana Kay Barnett Straten, 73, of Harrodsburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 16. Lana was a woman who loved deeply, laughed loudly, and lived life in her own way. She wasn’t one for tradition — she preferred connection, conversation, and time spent together. Her greatest joy was her family, and she especially treasured her three grandchildren, Kaelin Drakeford, Anna Kate Drakeford, and Ashton Drakeford. They were the light of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard “Dick” Straten; her daughter, Kristy (Jimmy) Drakeford; her sister, Beverly (Larry) Royalty, all of Harrodsburg; and her brother, Larry (DJ) Barnett of Lawrenceburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kobert and Helen Barnett.
Lana loved cheering on UK basketball, watching her favorite game shows, playing bingo, and singing karaoke whenever she had the chance. She enjoyed simple pleasures, good company, and moments that brought people together. Her laughter, her stories, and her unmistakable spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
In keeping with Lana’s wishes, an informal Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, at Carpenter’s Christian Church in the gym/multipurpose room. Lana didn’t want something traditional — she wanted family and friends to gather, share stories, laugh, and simply spend time together celebrating her life.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
